Please reach us at bftm@birminghamfilmmarket.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.
The submission cost means your application form will be reviewed and your projects will be considered for a market pass. This is a non-refundable fee and it doesn't guarantee you a place. You will be notified whether successful or not upon close of submissions.
We promise each participant 5 meetings throughout the day. This may be subject to change depending on the participating executives.
Feature films, television series, a one-off television piece. There are no genre, subject or budget restrictions. Project stages can be from finished scripts to complete productions looking for distribution.
Unfortunately, we cannot accept short films, or film ideas without available script.
Anyone with a finished script can submit an application.
Yes, absolutely. You don't have to have a production company attached to your project. Some of our commissioners prefer to work with new talent and are exclusively looking for writers.
Yes. Applications are open to anyone in the UK.
Go to the Registration page on the website and select 'Apply Now'.
Fill in the application form and pay the £10.00 (£0.00 Early bird) non-refundable fee to enter your project(s) into the market. If you are successful, you will receive an invoice for the attendance fee of £250.00 (minus £10.00 submission fee). Your place at the market is not confirmed until we have received payment.
You can bring any supporting materials you might have for the project(s) you will be pitching. This is not a requirement but is encouraged if the project is at a progressed stage. DO NOT bring a copy of your script to give away.
Recommended supporting materials will be discussed at the Match Fit Day.
This is an opportunity to practice your pitch, share your concerns and ask questions about the market day. The Smash Media team will give you invaluable tips on how to pitch professionally and help you ease the nerves ahead of the event. The Match Fit Day is included with your Market Pass.
You can bring up to one additional team member, for the additional fee of £100.00.
This can be anybody but we highly recommend selecting someone who brings extra value to your project(s).
The person you bring along is not allowed to pitch their own project(s), and are only there to support you.
You have to notify us if someone is accompanying you no later than 48 hours prior to the event, and the fee has to be paid the day before the market at the latest. Failure to do so will result in your plus one being denied access to the event.
If your circumstances have changed, contact us immediately at bftm@birminghamfilmmarket.co.uk.
In most cases, the market pass fee will be refunded, minus the submission fee which is non-refundable.
If you have to cancel 48 hours before the event, and we are unable to fill in your space with one of our reserves teams, we cannot offer refund but will discuss options to accommodate you the following year.
No, this is categorically not allowed. The market pass cannot be transferred to another team and they will be refused entry on the day. Only successful applicants can be granted access to the market day. Contact us at bftm@birminghamfilmmarket.co.uk if you need to cancel your attendance.
You will be notified of the outcome of your application upon close of submissions.
There are three possible outcomes:
Your application is unfortunately unsuccessful.
Your application is in the reserves - this means, although you didn't make the top 50, you came close. If someone drops out, you will be contacted and offered a place.
Your application is successful and you will be offered a place at the market.
