The Birmingham Film & TV Market and Steven Knight are teaming up to find the best screenwriters in the Midlands for the 2022

'Steven Knight: Make It In Birmingham' Award.

We are here to create real opportunities for writers across the region; marginalized, under-represented,  and not agency signed writers are very much encouraged to apply.

We are thrilled to confirm that professional script development titans SCRIPT ANGEL are on board to handle script assessment.

The Winning Writer receives a meeting with Steven Knight to develop and support their writing future, a full day pass to the market day on 7th October, AND an exclusive award trophy presented at BFTM2022.

HOW IT WORKS:

The Top 20 writers receive official laurel and certificate.

The Top 3 compete via a 2 scene writing task, set and judged by Steven Knight.

The Winner will receive an award trophy at the BFTM2022, October 7th, at the Grand Hotel Birmingham and a mentorship session with Steven Knight.

TIMELINE

• 1st May - Submission window opens.
• 11th July - Submission window closes.
• 1st September - Top 20 and Top 3 announced.
• Top 3 receive a 2 scene writing task - set and judged by Steven Knight.
• 7th October - Winner is presented with the Award Trophy at the Birmingham Film & TV Market 2022.

Terms & Conditions:

The BFTM Writer’s Competition is open to Midlands based writers only. Please see list at the bottom of this page for area eligibility.*

• Submission fee is non-refundable.
• All rights must be held by the screenwriter(s) who are submitting to the competition and not by any third party. 
• All readers of the screenplays will be prohibited from copying or otherwise exploiting the scripts for any reason other than in connection with the competition itself; copyright remains with the screenwriters.
• All screenplays must be original work.
• Adaptations or screenplays based on other works (such as books or plays) will only be accepted if all rights are owned by the writer of the screenplay or if the underlying work is in the public domain and is no longer protected by copyright.
• Screenplays based on true stories or events may be submitted provided the writer has written permission from any living persons represented in the screenplay.
• No written feedback will be offered by any readers.
• Travel to BFTM/meetings &/or accommodation will not be covered by BFTM or Nebula Star.
